3 Adding a Dependent
Who is a Dependent?
Dependents are family members whose healthcare you manage, such as:
- Your child or children
- An elderly parent in your care
- A pet (dog, cat, etc.)
- Any family member you help with medications
How to Add a Dependent
- Go to Family Management from your dashboard sidebar
- In the Dependents section, click + Add Dependent
- Enter the dependent's information:
- Full Name - The dependent's name
- Relationship - Child, Parent, Pet, etc.
- Date of Birth (optional but recommended)
- Profile Photo (optional)
- Click Save to create the profile
Managing Your Dependent
Once your dependent is added, you can:
- Edit Profile - Update their name, photo, or information
- Add Medications - Track their prescriptions and supplements
- Schedule Appointments - Keep track of doctor visits
- View Pillbox - See their medication schedule
Your Individual Plan includes 1 dependent. Need more? Add additional dependent slots at $4.99/month each, or upgrade to the Family Plan for up to 3 dependents included.
4 Backup Adult Access
What is Backup Adult Access?
Backup Adult Access is a unique feature of the Individual Plan that lets you grant temporary access to a trusted adult during:
- Vacations when you're traveling
- Medical emergencies or hospital stays
- Business trips
- Any time you need temporary help
How Backup Access Works
- Go to Family Management
- Click + Invite Family Member
- Select Backup Adult as the invitation type
- Enter the backup adult's email address
- Choose an Access Duration (3 days to 1 year)
- Add a purpose (optional) like "Summer vacation"
- Click Send Backup Invite
Access Duration Options
| Duration | Best For |
|---|---|
| 3 days | Weekend trips |
| 1 week | Short vacations |
| 2 weeks | Extended trips |
| 1-3 months | Medical recovery, long travel |
| 6 months - 1 year | Extended care situations |
Important: When you (the primary account holder) log back in, the backup adult's access will automatically expire within 24 hours. This prevents two adults from accessing the account simultaneously and protects against misuse.
Managing Backup Access
You can manage backup adult access at any time:
- View Status - See who has access and when it expires
- Revoke Access - End access immediately if needed
- Extend Access - Send a new invitation to extend their time
Unlike the Family Plan, only one adult can actively manage your dependents at any time. This keeps things simple and prevents confusion about who gave medications.
5 Managing Your Medications
Adding a Medication
- Go to Pillbox Manager from your dashboard
- Click + Add Medication
- Fill in the medication details:
- Medication Name - The drug name (e.g., "Lisinopril")
- Dosage - Amount per dose (e.g., "10mg")
- Frequency - Daily, weekly, as needed
- Time(s) - When to take it
- Profile - You or your dependent
- Click Save Medication
FDA Drug Information
When you add a medication, MediWatchers can automatically look up:
- Official drug information from the FDA database
- Common side effects to watch for
- Drug interactions with your other medications
- Important warnings and precautions
Organizing Your Pillbox
Your Pillbox shows medications organized by time of day:
- Morning - Medications taken before noon
- Afternoon - Medications taken noon to 5 PM
- Evening - Medications taken 5 PM to bedtime
- As Needed - Medications taken when required
Use the Pill Identifier feature to take a photo of a pill and automatically identify it. Great for adding new medications quickly!
6 Setting Up Reminders
Creating a Reminder
- When adding or editing a medication, look for the Reminders section
- Toggle Enable Reminders to ON
- Choose your reminder method:
- Email - Get an email reminder
- In-App - See a notification in MediWatchers
- Both - Get both types of reminders
- Set the timing (e.g., "15 minutes before")
